Creative and relaxing activities to do after a stressful day

October 17, 2025

After hours in front of the computer, in the car, or immersed in a thousand daily tasks, finding a moment to relax and engage in low-commitment creative activities can be a good way to detach your mind from the usual routine.

4 creative activity ideas to try

Here are 4 creative and/or relaxing activities you can do in the evening, dedicating 20 to 45 minutes of your time (or more, if you wish...)

The first activity I want to suggest is drawing, and no, you don't need special skills to unleash your creativity. Whether you can draw or not isn't important; what makes the difference is letting out what you have inside.

Secondly, doing a puzzle can certainly be a very stimulating idea. Puzzles offer enormous benefits: they improve concentration, train memory, stimulate creativity and critical thinking, and are also a great way to work on something that gradually takes shape. If you want to dedicate less time, you can opt for a 500-piece puzzle, but if you really want to challenge yourself, a 1000-piece puzzle can be ideal. Completing it certainly takes several hours, but it's not mandatory to finish it in a single evening.

Among the simplest and most regenerating activities is undoubtedly reading. Whether it's a physical book, an e-book on a Kindle, or even online articles and short stories, reading is a wonderful way to take a break and disconnect from the real world. Just 20 minutes a day is enough to immerse yourself in new stories, expand your vocabulary, stimulate your imagination, and reduce stress.
It doesn't matter what you read: novels, biographies, poems, or essays — the important thing is to choose something that excites you and makes you feel good. Reading thus becomes a small daily ritual to slow down and recharge your mind.

The fourth recommended activity is, without a doubt, cooking. You don't need to be a chef or prepare elaborate dishes: just let curiosity guide you and experiment with a new recipe, a simple pasta dish, or that dish you've wanted to recreate for a long time.

Cooking engages the senses, stimulates concentration, and brings satisfaction and laughter. It's a small ritual of well-being accompanied by background music and, for those who enjoy it, a glass of wine.
